Choosing The Right Kind of Meat Helps Good Health
“But doth not the appetite alter? A man loves the meat in his youth that he cannot endure in his age.” Quote by William Shakespeare (1564-1616) 'Much Ado About Nothing'
Choosing healthy foods will help us live a healthy life and enjoy living life “You only live once” as the famous  line goes, so you have to make the most out of it. Always take into consideration the importance and safety of your health. “Health is wealth”  and a great health can help us achieve  success in whatever endeavor we may be facing.

There can be a lot of ways that can help us maintain a good health. One of these is being aware of the kinds of food we should indulge in. The food that we eat really matters a lot to the development of our well-being. So we have to consider these things to avoid eating the wrong ones. Choose healthy foods like choosing the right kind of meat, especially for those who love to eat meat. When we say meat, this includes beef, pork, lamb, chicken and meat from other animals.

Nowadays, meat often comes from animals fed with grains and was given hormones and antibiotics to speed up their growth. However, we should put to mind that eating meat from animals raised and fed in a natural way is healthier and more nutritious which makes them healthy as foods. These include beef from cows, meat from lambs that ate grass, and pastured chickens that moved freely around the countryside.

Cows that fed on grass instead of grains have a much better nutrient content. Their meat are considered as healthy foods because they contain more omega-3 and less omega-6. Furthermore, they have a larger volume of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which lowers body fat and increase lean mass. and more vitamin A, vitamin E and the cellular antioxidant glutathione.

From this point of view, it goes to show that it is a great idea to consume meat coming from healthy, naturally raised animals.

However, this type of meat is more expensive. So if your budget seems not to be enough, you can go with those meats that were conventionally raised. Conventionally raised meats are much better than the standard western diet.

List of Healthy Foods that you can choose from

In choosing steak or burgers, you should choose the ones that came from the grass-fed. Grass-fed beef is leaner due to the fact that it contains lesser calories compared to conventional meat.  A lean seven-ounce conventional strip steak may have 386 calories and 16 grams of fat, but a seven-ounce grass-fed strip steak will only have 234 calories and five grams of fat in it. A study published in Nutrition Journal showed that grass-fed meat has higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Which shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Grass-fed beef is an excellent choice, however, bison has become popular in recent years for the reason that its fat content measures lesser than the fat of a red meat. And that is aside from having fewer calories, as well. According to the USDA, if a 90%-lean hamburger averages about 10 grams of fat, a buffalo burger of the same size has only two grams of fat with 24 grams of protein. Buffalo meat or Bison is one of the leanest meats around. It is also rich in Vitamin B-12 that can keep your energy for the whole day as this vitamin will boost your energy. At the same time, it also helps shut down the genes responsible for insulin resistance and the formation of fat cells.  Bison is naturally grass-fed, making it a healthy food. It is free from hormones and pollutants that can manifest in your belly fat.

Turkey is lean and rich in protein. A quarter-pound turkey burger patty has 140 calories, 16 grams of protein and eight grams of fat. It is also rich in DHA omega-3 acids containing 18 mg of this per serving. This helps enhance the brain, improve mood and turn off fat genes. And it also prevents fat cells from growing in size. When buying turkey go for the white meat only because the dark meat is full of fat. It’s  better prepared at home as those grilled in the restaurants may contain lots of fatty ingredients to add flavor.

Yes!  Ostrich meat is excellent, especially when grilled. The meat of an ostrich which colors red, resembles the rich taste of a beef. It has lesser fat than turkey or chicken. A three-ounce ostrich patty contains 146 calories, 22 grams of protein and six grams of fat. One serving of this provides 200% of the daily recommended allowance of vitamin B-12.  Ostrich can help lose fat because of its choline content. Choline is a nutrient that aids in reducing fat.

The pork had always caused an adverse effect on the health of human if we overindulge with this kind of meat. But with the right part, pork tenderloin has become a healthier alternative. A study made by the University of Wisconsin found that a three-ounce serving of pork tenderloin has a little less fat than a skinless chicken breast. It has 24 grams of protein per serving and 83 mg of choline. Another study involved 144 overweight people who ate a diet rich in fresh lean pork. After three months, the scientists  saw significant reduction in their waists, BMI and belly fat, without reducing their muscle mass! Scientists concluded that the amino acid profile of pork protein may have contributed to greater fat burning.

Nonetheless, we can feast on foods including meat and other savory recipes. As long as we practice a little discernment in choosing the kind of food we should take. So always go for healthy foods. There can be no substitute for a healthy body and good health. So we should take to heart the responsibility of taking care of our well-being.
